Terms of service
Small Finds Archaeology analyzes archaeological artefacts (metal, worked bone, pearls, glass, ect.) from excavations and prospections for licenced archaeological firms and departments.
Small Finds Archaeology does not work for private individuals (amateurs, collectors).
Material
Small Finds Archaeology is specialized in archaeological finds form the early Roman to the Frankish period. If an excavation contains more than the occasional older and/or younger artefact, these finds will have to be determined by another specialist.
Method
For the determination and report, all finds will be recorded in an (Access) database. At the same time, the finds are scanned and organized into different groups according to whether they will be restored and kept for further research or not.
Subsequently, the artefacts of the former group are described in detail in a catalogue. This is especially important for groups of similar artefacts (for instance several fibulae of a certain type), which – because they are handmade - differ slightly from each other in detail. The detailed description of the artefacts is necessary for further research into this group of finds in the future.
The results of the research will be drawn up in a report, in which the finds are described summarily as to numbers, materials and the state of conservation. The techniques used during the analysis and classification are explained. This is followed by a description of the finds per period and function. In the conclusion, an attempt is made to interpret the finds and answer the relevant research questions.
